Meet William
When disaster strikes, true heroes rise, and sometimes, they’re only 10 years old!
This week, we’re shining the spotlight on this week’s Green Bay Packers Hometown Kid, William Crubel of Hartland, Wisconsin. When historic flooding hit southeastern Wisconsin on August 10th, William didn’t just sit back and watch; he took action.
Rising Waters, Rising to the Occasion
As floodwaters surged through West Allis neighborhoods, William joined his family and neighbors in the effort to clean up and recover. From pumping water out of flooded basements to hauling waterlogged furniture and debris into dumpsters, William stayed busy helping those around him in the days following the storm.
But amidst the mess, William saw something that touched his heart.
He noticed neighborhood kids riding bikes through flooded streets, their belongings, including toys, clothes, and school supplies, piled on the curb, ruined. With the school year fast approaching, William turned to his mom and said:
“They’re not going to have anything for school.”
One Idea Sparked a Community Effort
From that moment on, William had a mission. With help from his family, he began collecting backpacks, notebooks, crayons, markers, and clothing for children who had lost so much in the flood.
The donated items were delivered to a local church hosting a free rummage event for families in need. Thanks to William’s compassion and initiative, dozens of kids were able to start the school year with fresh supplies and a renewed sense of normalcy, and hope.
A Heart as Big as Wisconsin
William may be young, but his actions are a powerful reminder that kindness, leadership, and community spirit have no age limit. His selflessness during a time of crisis represents the very best of what it means to be a true Wisconsinite and a true Hometown Hero.
